Overview

Akureyri is the vibrant, beating heart of North Iceland. While its a small town, it has a huge personality, with a surprisingly mild climate that supports a stunning (and free) Botanical Garden. The town itself is a delight, with colorful houses and the iconic Akureyrarkirkja church dominating the skyline. But the real reason youre here is for the staggering nature just beyond. This is the doorstep to the Diamond Circle. Go whale watching in the fjord, feel the raw power of Godafoss (Waterfall of the Gods), and explore the otherworldly, bubbling mud-pots and steam vents of the Lake Myvatn area.
