Overview
Icy Strait Point is Alaska's largest privately-owned cruise destination, built on the site of a former fish cannery and operated by the Huna Totem Corporation. The location, on Chichagof Island across from Glacier Bay, delivers stunning wilderness access without the crowds of traditional ports. The world's longest zipline (over 5,000 feet, dropping 1,300 feet) is the showstopper attraction, but wildlife viewing often steals the show—humpback whales bubble-net feeding, brown bears fishing for salmon, and bald eagles everywhere. The restored cannery buildings house a museum, shops, and restaurants serving locally-caught seafood. This is Tlingit land, and the cultural center showcases authentic Indigenous art, performances, and storytelling. The surrounding Tongass rainforest has hiking, kayaking, and the kind of raw Alaska beauty that reminds you why people are so obsessed with this state. With cruise ships docking rather than tendering, access is easy despite the remote location.
