Virgin Voyages Deep Blue Extras represent the highest tier of the Sailing Club loyalty program — and they’re usually earned, not bought. Unlocked after completing four eligible voyages, Deep Blue Extras kick in starting on your fifth sailing and deliver a genuinely valuable set of perks: a $100 Bar Tab credit, unlimited Premium WiFi, priority boarding, specialty coffee, laundry service, a cocktail reception, and dedicated Sailor Services support. This guide breaks down exactly how to earn Deep Blue Extras, what’s included at each tier, and the edge cases that trip up even experienced Sailors.
The Sailing Club loyalty program is Virgin Voyages’ way of rewarding repeat Sailors. Membership is automatic after completing one eligible voyage — no sign-up form required. From there, your benefits scale with the number of qualifying sailings you complete.
The program currently has two perk tiers:
Credit for each voyage is accrued 30 days after completion. If you’re on a back-to-back sailing and qualify for the next tier mid-trip, the upgraded perks won’t apply until your next separate voyage.
As of 7 October 2025, Base, Essential, and Premium fare bookings all count toward Sailing Club eligibility. Previously, only certain fare types qualified — so this expansion is a meaningful change for Sailors who prefer booking at the Base tier.
Not every sailing counts toward your Sailing Club tier progression. An eligible voyage must be a full-fare booking — meaning it was not booked using a discounted Access Key, gifted cruise, casino comp, airline points redemption, or other low-fare pricing method. Reduced-rate voyages and certain other booking types are also excluded.
This is one of the most important distinctions in the program. A Sailor who has taken six voyages but booked two of them via Access Key may only have four eligible voyages on record — which would mean Deep Blue Extras just kicked in, not two sailings ago.
Pro Tip: Casino comp bookings are a specific edge case worth flagging. According to the Virgin Voyages casino page, Sailors who hold Deep Blue Extras perks will not receive those perks when sailing on a casino comp booking. You’ll receive the casino loyalty perks instead — not both.
Deep Blue Extras are the richest loyalty perks currently available in the Sailing Club program. Starting on your fifth eligible voyage, each qualifying Sailor receives the following on every eligible sailing:
Pro Tip: Each qualifying Sailor needs to scan their own band or bracelet when ordering specialty coffees. If one Sailor orders both coffees on a single band, the second one may get charged to the account. Community reports confirm this is a common billing issue that’s easily avoided.
Blue Extras are the entry-level perk tier — available on your 3rd and 4th eligible voyages. They share some overlap with Deep Blue Extras but at a reduced level.
| Perk | Blue Extras (Voyages 3–4) | Deep Blue Extras (Voyage 5+) |
|---|---|---|
| Bar Tab Credit | None | $100 promotional Bar Tab |
| WiFi | None | Unlimited Premium WiFi |
| Priority Boarding | None | Yes (cabin mate included) |
| Coffee Credit | 1 per day | 2 per day |
| Laundry | 1 bag | 2 pressed, 1 specialty, 1 bag |
| Cocktail Event | Yes (cabin mate included) | Yes (cabin mate included) |
| Dedicated Support | Yes | Yes |
The jump from Blue Extras to Deep Blue Extras is substantial. The $100 Bar Tab and unlimited WiFi alone can easily be worth $200+ per voyage — and priority boarding removes the stress of selecting your boarding time in the app.
Virgin Voyages has offered status match promotions to bring loyalty members from other cruise lines, airlines, and hotel programs into the Sailing Club. How a status match impacts your path to Deep Blue Extras depends on when you matched and which version of the program you were approved under.
Sailors approved for the legacy status match received immediate Sailing Club membership and Blue Extras perks on their first eligible voyage. This match did not change the standard voyage requirements for Deep Blue Extras.
Here’s the critical detail many Sailors miss: to upgrade from a legacy status match to Deep Blue Extras, you still need to complete four total eligible voyages. Deep Blue Extras will apply on your fifth eligible sailing.
The February 2026 version was more limited. Approved Sailors received a one-time Access Key that provided a Blue Extras “experience” on a single voyage — one bag of laundry, one specialty coffee per day, a cocktail event invitation, and dedicated support. The enrollment window closed February 28, 2026, with bookings accepted through March 31, 2026.
This version explicitly does not upgrade you to the permanent Blue Extras tier. You still need to meet standard requirements to earn Blue Extras or Deep Blue Extras the traditional way.
The trajectory of Virgin Voyages’ status match offers has diminished over time — from full tier matching down to a one-time perk experience on a single sailing. Sailors waiting for a future match should plan accordingly.
The $100 promotional Bar Tab from Deep Blue Extras is applied directly to your folio. It stacks with any prepaid Bar Tab you purchase before your voyage. If you buy the $300 prepaid Bar Tab (which includes a $50 bonus), you’d have $450 total in drink credit — $350 from your purchase plus $100 from Deep Blue Extras.
If you prefer to pay as you go, the $100 credit acts as a head start — your first several drinks are covered before anything hits your card. You can learn more about the tradeoffs in our Bar Tab vs. Sailor Loot comparison.
Pro Tip: Sea-Blazers and Sea-Rovers — Sailors who earned those legacy badges before January 1, 2024 — receive even more value. Sea-Blazers get a $125 Bar Tab bonus (on top of a purchased $300 Bar Tab), and Sea-Rovers get a $100 bonus. These bonuses are for life (Sea-Blazers) and in 2024 (Sea-Rovers), and they stack with Deep Blue Extras perks when available.
Community reports consistently flag this: Sailing Club perks sometimes don’t appear in the app’s “Add-ons” section before embarkation. If your benefits aren’t visible, contact Sailor Services onboard. Many Sailors report needing a manual correction early in the voyage to get everything activated properly.
Bar Tab credits, WiFi, laundry, and coffee charges may initially appear on your onboard account — even when they should be covered by your perks. Per the Sailing Club terms, these charges will be waived before your credit card is charged at the end of the voyage. If charges persist, a visit to Sailor Services usually resolves it.
Discounted Access Key bookings do not earn Sailing Club credit and do not receive Sailing Club perks. The Annual Pass, however, is different — purchasers receive Deep Blue Extras perks on every voyage, including the full benefit set.
The current Blue Extras and Deep Blue Extras program is confirmed through 31 December 2026. Virgin Voyages is expected to announce new tiers and program updates in the future. The Serious Sailors™ team will update our complete Sailing Club guide as soon as official details are released.
Virgin Voyages has also added language warning against “gaming the system” — fraudulent activity or manipulation of the loyalty program can result in forfeiture of benefits at Virgin Voyages’ sole discretion.
No. Discounted Access Key bookings, gifted cruises, casino comps, and voyages booked with airline points do not count as eligible voyages. They don’t contribute to your tier progression, and you won’t receive Sailing Club perks on those sailings.
Perks should appear in your Sailor account on virginvoyages.com and in the app’s add-ons section before sailing. If they’re not visible, contact Sailor Services — some Sailors report needing manual activation onboard.
Generally positive once perks are properly applied. The most common friction points are temporary folio charges that need to be waived, coffee credits requiring individual band scans, and perks not appearing in the app before embarkation. All are resolvable through onboard Sailor Services.
The legacy status match (April 3, 2024 – October 31, 2025) did not change the standard voyage requirements for Deep Blue Extras. The February 2026 enhanced status match does not upgrade you to the permanent Blue Extras tier.
Virgin Voyages Deep Blue Extras deliver real, tangible value — $100 in Bar Tab credit, unlimited WiFi, priority boarding, daily coffees, and laundry service add up fast, especially on longer sailings. The key is making sure every voyage you book counts toward your tally by sticking with eligible full-fare bookings. If you’re working toward Deep Blue Extras — or already there and want to maximize your perks — your First Mate at Serious Sailors can make sure everything is booked and tracked correctly from day one.
