SERIOUS SAILORS SCORE 3.4
Serious Sailors Score
Solid pick
Motion Very Good Noise Good Location Very Good
Motion — Very Good

Motion on a ship is felt most strongly at the bow and on the upper decks, and it settles toward the middle and lower decks. Cabin 5284M sits aft on Deck 5, toward the stern, which generally rides easier than the forward end, with a lower deck working in its favor. Helped by the extra stability of a lower deck when seas pick up, it stays comfortable on most itineraries, with real motion only when the seas pick up.

Noise — Good

How quiet a cabin feels comes down to what surrounds it — the nearest venues, the busiest elevator banks, and whatever sits directly above or below. Cabin 5284M sits at the aft end of Deck 5, well clear of the ship's late-night venues and the busy mid-ship elevators. Overall it stays quiet, with only mild sound during the busiest daytime hours. The one thing to know is its closeness to a few of the ship's livelier venues and evening and late-night sound from the venues above, though it rarely amounts to much.

Location — Very Good

Location really comes down to how far you are from the places you use most — the main dining rooms, the pool deck, and the gangway on port days. Cabin 5284M sits at the aft end of Deck 5, with quick access to the forward elevators and being close to dining and entertainment on a lower deck. Keeping the back-of-ship venues close at hand is what earns it a strong location score. Just about everywhere aboard stays within a comfortable walk.

The cabin

The cabin, told straight.

The Insider is one of Virgin's most-booked cabins. Cabin 5284M delivers it from an aft, central side position on Deck 5.

The Insider is Virgin Voyages’ smartest-value cabin: a calm, windowless retreat with mood lighting, a queen bed that converts to two twins, clever storage, and USB charging. The bathroom packs a rainfall shower and premium toiletries, while complimentary Wi-Fi and in-room controls keep things easy. Perfect for Sailors who want a dark, quiet place to sleep and save their budget for the good stuff.

“We rate every cabin the way we'd brief a friend — motion, noise and location first, marketing never. Cabin 5284M earns its 3.4.”
— The Serious Sailors crew

About the cabin number itself: the letter at the end of every Insider tells you which side of the ship you're on. A-suffixed cabins sit on the port side (left, facing forward); Z-suffixed cabins sit on the starboard side (right). Cabin 5284M sits on the central corridor rather than a fixed port or starboard side.

What makes 5284M specific is its placement. Aft puts you near the wake views, with the occasional gentle engine hum on lower decks. Deck 5 sets your elevator distance to dining and the pool deck. One cabin-specific detail: it has the forward elevators practically at the door. Prefer to compare the whole category? See every Insider cabin →
