The Virgin Voyages MNVV — officially called “My Next Virgin Voyage” — is the single best deal available to Sailors who are currently sailing. For a $150 deposit, you lock in up to $650 in total value on a future voyage. But the full onboard offer is only available while you’re on the ship, and there are rules, restrictions, and cabin eligibility requirements that determine whether you squeeze every dollar out of it — or leave money on the table.
This guide breaks down exactly how the MNVV onboard offer works, what it’s worth by voyage length, how to buy it, which cabins and fare types qualify, the post-voyage alternative, and the repricing strategy that makes the Virgin Voyages MNVV even more valuable than the sticker price suggests.
The value scales with how long your future voyage is. Every MNVV includes two components: a voyage fare discount applied to the price of the cruise and Sailor Loot (onboard credit you spend during the sailing). The $150 deposit itself goes toward the 20% booking deposit on your future voyage.
Most breakdowns only mention the fare discount and Sailor Loot. But the $150 you pay isn’t gone — it’s applied toward the deposit on your next sailing. That means the true total value on a 9+ night voyage is $650: $250 fare discount + $250 Sailor Loot + $150 paid toward your deposit.
| Future Voyage Length | Fare Discount | Bonus Sailor Loot | Total Value (incl. $150 deposit) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4–5 nights | $150 | $150 | $450 |
| 6–8 nights | $200 | $200 | $550 |
| 9+ nights | $250 | $250 | $650 |
On a 9+ night voyage, you’re turning $150 into $650 in combined value — a fare reduction, onboard credit for drinks, Redemption Spa sessions, Shore Things, and tattoos, plus cash toward your next deposit. The MNVV is only valid on sailings of 4 nights or longer.
Pro Tip: Only one MNVV can be applied per future reservation. If you buy four onboard, that’s four separate future bookings you can discount — not $2,600 off a single voyage.
There are two ways to purchase the MNVV while you’re sailing:
You must use a personal credit or debit card in your own name. Corporate cards and business cards are not accepted. The name on the card must match the Sailor purchasing the MNVV — a friend or family member back home generally cannot complete the purchase on your behalf.
You can buy up to four MNVVs per Sailor per sailing. Any attempted purchases exceeding that limit may be declined, per Virgin Voyages’ MNVV policy. If you’re traveling as a couple, each Sailor can purchase four — giving you eight total certificates across both profiles.
Pro Tip: Buy your MNVVs yourself, on your own credit card. This matters for repricing — when a price drops after booking, refunds route back to the original form of payment. If someone else bought the MNVV for you, that refund may go to their card.
When you purchase an MNVV, you have two options:
Most Sailors choose the placeholder route. It gives you maximum flexibility — you can wait for a sale, shop for the perfect itinerary, or even transfer the MNVV to another Sailor one time while it remains a placeholder.
If you’re not sure when to book your next Virgin Voyages sailing, the placeholder lets you lock in the offer value now and time your booking strategically later.
Virgin Voyages draws a clear line between full-fare cabin categories and restricted or lower-tier categories. The MNVV can be applied to most cabin categories on your future booking, but there are notable exclusions — and the rules are fleet-wide across Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Resilient Lady, and Brilliant Lady.
Mega RockStar eligibility is often misunderstood — many Sailors assume these suites are excluded because of their premium pricing and all-inclusive perks. They are fully eligible, and applying an MNVV to a Mega RockStar booking is one of the best uses of the credit given the high nightly rate.
The key requirement: the booking must be at a full-fare, non-restricted rate on an eligible Sea Terrace cabin or higher. All VoyageFair Choices tiers — Base, Essential, and Premium — qualify as long as the cabin category meets the threshold. Standard discounts like military, first responder, and pay-in-full discounts do not affect MNVV eligibility, but Resident Rates (including Florida Resident Rates) are excluded.
The Virgin Voyages booking system checks eligibility automatically and may reject the certificate if conditions aren’t met.
Choose full-fare Sea Terrace over Limited View when the price gap is small. Limited View Sea Terraces save money upfront but forfeit MNVV eligibility. If the price difference between a Limited View and a standard Sea Terrace is less than $150, booking the standard version and applying an MNVV actually makes it cheaper overall.
Factor MNVV value into cabin comparisons. When comparing an Insider at $800 versus a Sea Terrace at $1,100, the $300 difference shrinks to $150 after applying an MNVV. Add in the Sailor Loot and perks that come with higher-category bookings, and the Sea Terrace can deliver more total value.
The published savings — up to $650 — are significant on their own. But the real power of the MNVV becomes clear when your First Mate uses it as part of a repricing strategy.
Virgin Voyages adjusts prices frequently. When a price drops after you’ve booked, your First Mate can reprice your booking to capture the lower fare. Virgin may refund adjustments to the original form(s) of payment or issue a Future Voyage Credit (FVC), depending on the situation. If an MNVV deposit was used, some or all of a repricing refund may go back to the credit card that purchased the MNVV deposit — not necessarily the card that paid the voyage balance.
This is exactly why you should always buy your own MNVV on your own card. When prices drop and your First Mate reprices, the savings flow directly back to you.
MNVVs work best when combined with other Virgin Voyages programs. The MNVV reduces your fare while bonus Sailor Loot covers drinks, Bar Tab overages, spa treatments, and other onboard purchases. If you book at the Premium VoyageFair Choices tier, the included perks — $15/day Bar Tab, Premium WiFi, and wider dining reservation windows — stack on top of the MNVV discount for significant overall value.
Holiday sailings tend to be priced higher than standard voyages. Applying an MNVV to a holiday cruise maximizes the dollar impact because the fare discount offsets a larger percentage of the premium pricing.
Because the offer requires the Sailor’s name to match the personal form of payment, travel advisors generally can’t buy MNVVs in large quantities on behalf of future clients. The post-voyage MNVV terms explicitly state the offer “is not available for Sailor or Travel Advisor resale opportunities.” Purchases that don’t follow these rules may be declined. Buy your own before you disembark — once you leave the ship, the onboard offer is gone.
Your MNVV placeholder is valid for 2 years from the date of purchase. Your future voyage must commence on or before the expiration date — not just be booked by then. If the 2-year window passes without a completed sailing and you haven’t proactively canceled, the $150 deposit is forfeited. There are no extensions.
If you need to cancel, timing matters:
MNVVs are not a sunk cost even in the worst-case scenario. You can transfer a placeholder to another Sailor, or book a sailing and then cancel to convert the value into an FVC. For the full cancellation breakdown — including what happens after you’ve applied your MNVV to a specific booking — read what happens to your MNVV if you cancel.
Once you convert your placeholder into an actual booking, additional restrictions apply based on your fare tier:
The fare tier you choose on your future booking directly impacts your flexibility. If you value the ability to change dates or names, avoid Base fare for MNVV bookings.
Booking Tip: Sailor Loot from your MNVV can only be used onboard during the future voyage. It cannot be applied to pre-voyage purchases like Bar Tabs or Shore Things booked before departure, and any unused Sailor Loot is not refunded or rolled over after the voyage ends.
Virgin also offers a post-voyage version of the MNVV, but it’s a different — and less valuable — product. If you didn’t buy onboard, you have 14 days after disembarkation to register with a $150 deposit.
The key difference: the post-voyage offer only includes Sailor Loot (onboard credit). No voyage fare discount.
| MNVV Version | Fare Discount | Sailor Loot | Total Value (incl. deposit) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Onboard (while sailing) | Up to $250 | Up to $250 | Up to $650 |
| Post-Voyage (within 14 days) | None | Up to $250 | Up to $400 |
The post-voyage offer is better than nothing, but it’s worth significantly less. Buy onboard if at all possible.
Yes — with limits. The MNVV can be combined with some current Virgin Voyages promotions, including recent offers like “70% Off 2nd Sailor” and “Instant Savings.” However, it’s explicitly excluded from deeply discounted rates:
Only one MNVV can be applied per reservation — this includes all MNVV variants (onboard and post-voyage). The MNVV can be applied to a new reservation within a group shell, but doing so means you receive MNVV benefits instead of any Groups Bar Tab or Affinity Loot. It cannot be retroactively added to an existing booking.
The MNVV is also listed as ineligible for Best Price Guarantee comparisons unless it was included in your original booking. However, if your original booking already included an MNVV and the price later drops, Virgin will honor the Best Price Guarantee adjustment and carry the MNVV benefits over.
Sailor Loot is always provided in USD regardless of your booking currency. The voyage fare discount has fixed equivalents for non-USD bookings:
| Voyage Length | USD | CAD | GBP | EUR | AUD | NZD |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4–5 nights | $150 | $205 | £120 | €140 | $225 | $245 |
| 6–8 nights | $200 | $270 | £160 | €185 | $300 | $325 |
| 9+ nights | $250 | $340 | £200 | €230 | $375 | $410 |
These are static rates set by Virgin Voyages — they don’t fluctuate with exchange rates.
While MNVVs are transferable, buying from unknown online sellers introduces risks that purchasing onboard avoids entirely.
Refund routing. Virgin Voyages routes refunds back to the original form of payment tied to the MNVV. If you use someone else’s certificate and a repricing refund is issued, it goes to their credit card — not yours. When you own the certificate, every dollar flows back to you.
Unknown history. Certificates purchased from third parties may have been applied to a booking and canceled, which can affect the credit amount or Sailor Loot bonus. When you buy onboard, you receive a fresh, unused certificate with its full value intact.
Agent assignment. MNVVs purchased from others may be assigned to a travel advisor you don’t know and didn’t choose. While this can be changed, the process takes 3–5 business days. Buying onboard lets you assign to your preferred First Mate immediately.
Not the full onboard version. The MNVV with both the fare discount and Sailor Loot is only available while you’re sailing. After disembarkation, you have 14 days to register for the post-voyage version, which only includes Sailor Loot — no fare discount.
Any Sailor currently sailing on a Virgin Voyages ship. No status requirement, no minimum cabin category on your current voyage, and no Sailing Club tier needed. The moment you disembark, eligibility ends.
Full-fare Sea Terrace cabins (standard, Central, and XL), all RockStar Quarters, and all Mega RockStar Quarters qualify. Limited View Sea Terrace, all Sea View, all Insider, and all Lock It In rates do not qualify. The rules are fleet-wide and identical on Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Resilient Lady, and Brilliant Lady.
No. All three VoyageFair Choices tiers qualify for MNVV application as long as the cabin category is Sea Terrace or higher. The fare tier determines your dining window, WiFi, and flexibility perks, but does not affect MNVV eligibility.
Within 7 days of registration — yes, full refund to your original payment method. After 7 days, the $150 converts to a Future Voyage Credit valid for 1 year, and the MNVV fare discount and Sailor Loot are forfeited.
The Virgin Voyages MNVV turns $150 into up to $650 in total value — and becomes even more powerful when your First Mate uses it as part of a repricing strategy. Buy your own, buy all four, and buy them before you walk off the ship. Always purchase onboard rather than from online resellers to ensure your refunds route correctly and your certificates retain full value.
