SERIOUS SAILORS SCORE 4.2
Serious Sailors Score
Excellent pick
Motion Excellent Noise Excellent Location Very Good
Motion — Excellent

Motion on a ship is felt most strongly at the bow and on the upper decks, and it settles toward the middle and lower decks. Cabin 8226A sits midship on Deck 8, along the stretch of the ship that moves the least. All of which makes for an exceptionally steady ride — sailors here point to the steady ride that comes with a midship position and the extra stability of a lower deck when seas pick up, and it would take genuinely rough water to notice much else.

Noise — Excellent

How quiet a cabin feels comes down to what surrounds it — the nearest venues, the busiest elevator banks, and whatever sits directly above or below. Cabin 8226A sits midship on Deck 8, central to the ship and near the busier mid-ship elevator bank. Deck 8 sits just above the outdoor promenade, so there can be some daytime foot traffic from below. It earns a top noise score, and most sailors will find it genuinely quiet day and night. The only minor note is some daytime foot traffic from the Deck 7 promenade below — barely noticeable for most, though the lightest sleepers might keep earplugs handy.

Location — Very Good

Location really comes down to how far you are from the places you use most — the main dining rooms, the pool deck, and the gangway on port days. Cabin 8226A sits midship on Deck 8, the most central spot on any deck, with a short elevator hop to the main amenities. Being this central keeps almost everything within an easy walk, which is what earns it a strong location score. The main trade-off is sitting beside an elevator bank, with some passing foot traffic and a partially obstructed view, but for sailors happy to base themselves midship it is an easy one to accept.

What we love

The cabin

The cabin, told straight.

The (Slightly) Smaller Balcony is one of Virgin's most-booked cabins. Cabin 8226A delivers it from a midship, port side position on Deck 8.

The Sea Terrace: (Slightly Smaller Balcony) gives you fresh-air terrace living with a smaller footprint and a partial ocean view. Thoughtfully designed for comfort, it pairs a queen bed and flexible seating with a compact terrace, marble bathroom, USB charging and complimentary Wi-Fi. Ideal for Sailors who want outdoor space and value — great for couples or solo travellers who prefer a terrace without the suite price.

“We rate every cabin the way we'd brief a friend — motion, noise and location first, marketing never. Cabin 8226A earns its 4.2.”
— The Serious Sailors crew

About the cabin number itself: the letter at the end of every (Slightly) Smaller Balcony tells you which side of the ship you're on. A-suffixed cabins sit on the port side (left, facing forward); Z-suffixed cabins sit on the starboard side (right). Cabin 8226A ends in A, so it’s a port-side cabin — its mirror twin 8226Z is the identical layout on starboard.

What makes 8226A specific is its placement. Midship is the steadiest stretch of the ship — the smart pick if motion matters to you. Deck 8 sets your elevator distance to dining and the pool deck. the "A" suffix puts you on the port side (left, facing forward). It trades a clear outlook for a partially obstructed view, too.
