Rhodes delivers Greek island sunshine with one of the Mediterranean's best-preserved medieval Old Towns, a UNESCO World Heritage site where Knights Hospitaller once ruled. The Palace of the Grand Master, Street of the Knights, and massive fortification walls transport you to the Crusader era, while the ancient Acropolis of Lindos provides dramatic clifftop ruins overlooking a perfect bay. The Old Towns maze of cobblestone lanes hides boutique hotels, tavernas, and shops selling ceramics and jewelry. New Town Rhodes has beach resorts, a marina, and the Mandraki harbor where the Colossus of Rhodes (one of the ancient world's Seven Wonders) once stood. Valley of the Butterflies attracts thousands of Jersey Tiger moths in summer, while the islands interior reveals traditional villages, olive groves, and Byzantine churches.
